An exhibition of work by Cotswold artists Clare Bassett and Alison Vickery
Alison and Clare have shared passions for art and flowers and create work in paint, print, fabric and stitch. They are quite experimental in their approaches and choice of materials. Both artists work in their studios in the same beautiful village in the Cotswolds where they live. This exhibition aims to showcase their wide ranging bodies of work.
Alison Vickery is a fine artist working in a range of media creating lively paintings which capture the essence of her subject, be it landscape, seascapes or the flowers from her garden. She is particularly interested in light and colour and conveying a “sense of the moment”. Alison works extensively in sketchbooks both outside and direct from her subject.
‘Flowers and Fabric’ highlights how flowers feature as both the central inspiration and as elements in Alison’s landscapes, and her fabric pieces, all worked by hand on linen are created from her sketches.
She has worked on many commissions for, amongst others, The National Trust and John Lewis. Many of Alison’s paintings and designs are published under licence, her work sells Worldwide and is permanently exhibited in a number of galleries and in many private collections.
Clare Bassett has been working as a fine artist for over thirty years. Her first passion was for printmaking, particularly lithography. More recently she has been exploring the mediums of paint and fabric as well as developing a line of silver and enamelled jewellery.
This exhibition will showcase a selection of her floral paintings using the fluid nature of watercolour and ink. Also some bold fabric pieces centred around images of women. These women dominate their space, but have a vulnerability which hangs over them. Each has a hidden story.
