Cut Flowers: a botanical papercut workshop with Shelley Saguaro

Cut Flowers: a botanical papercut workshop with Shelley Saguaro

Sunday 28th September, 10am - 3pm

The Setting Gallery, Three Storeys, Nailsworth, GL6 0JE

Cost: £40

This workshop is inspired by the ‘paper mosaiks’ of the eighteenth-century botanical artist, Mrs Mary Delany.  Shelley Saguaro’s botanical papercuts are reminiscent of Mary Delany’s work, particularly when representing flowers on a black background. Although Shelley’s methods and materials are somewhat different (for example, Shelley sources most of her coloured papers from the food magazine of a well-known supermarket), the premise is similar: to represent flora and foliage by using scissor-cut papers to create colourful botanical collages.

The workshop is open to 20 people, with places booked in advance

Coffee, teas and cakes are available at the adjacent The Plot café but workshop attendees will need to bring a packed lunch, which can be eaten in the gallery or the café.

All materials including glue, black paper, coloured magazines will be provided. Scissors will not be provided so please bring your own, the size and shape of which can be variable.

Autumn flora, foliage and fruits will be our subject matter.  A range of these will be provided on the day, so that each participant can choose an item to work on; participants may also bring their own botanical items of interest.
