We’re delighted to welcome back another botanical paper cut workshop with artist and tutor, Shelley Saguaro.
It is generally acknowledged that the garden in winter has been put to bed, and that greenery, Christmas wreaths and trees help us bide the time until Spring. You’d be welcome to assemble a conventionally seasonal papercut-wreath in this workshop, but here we will also explore wider than holly, mistletoe and ivy with a range of berries, seed-heads and even winter-flowering plants.
This workshop is designed both to introduce the art of botanical papercutting to beginners or to further encourage those already acquainted with representing flora and foliage by using scissor-cut papers to create colourful botanical collages.The ‘paper mosaiks’ of the eighteenth-century botanical artist, Mrs Mary Delany, will continue to be a point of reference, just as Shelley’s own work continues to be inspired by Mary Delany’s. However, this workshop is designed both to introduce the art of botanical papercutting to beginners or to further encourage those already acquainted with representing flora and foliage by using scissor-cut papers to create colourful botanical collages.
The workshop is open to 10 people and will be held in the Setting gallery.
Coffee, light lunches and cakes are available at the adjacent café, The Plot. The cost for the day is £40 per person. All materials including glue, construction paper, and coloured magazines will be provided. Scissors will not be provided so please bring your own, the size and shape of which can be variable. Winter botanicals will be our subject matter. A range of plant material will be provided on the day, so that each participant can choose an item to work on; participants may also bring their own botanical items of interest.
